What is ASER?
ASER fills the gap of the sex reversal database by integrating diverse information at different levels for the 18 species with sex reversal phenomena, including curated Sex Reversal-associated Genes (SRGs), RNA-seq data, image data, and conservation data. Particularly, ASER provides comprehensive information for SRGs including their regulators, targets, homologous genes, expression dynamics across different conditions, and spatial distribution in different stages. We expect that the resources in ASER will promote further studies to decode the molecular mechanisms of sex reversal. In the future, we will continuously update ASER database as new sex reversal species and genes become available.
In ASER, user can:
- Browse or download genome and literature in sex reversal species.
- Browse or search orthologs of SRGs across genomes.
- Browse or search ISH or FISH information and published evidence of SRGs.
- Browse or search expression, regulatory network, spatial distribution of SRGs, significance of SRGs in certain development stage of sex reversal or gonadogenesis.
- Browse or search high throughput datasets during typical development stage of sex reversal or gonadogenesis.
- Download the SRG analysis results and information from 18 species.

FAQs
Q: What is SRG?
A: SRGs, sex reversal associated genes, which were validated to be functional in sex reversal in different species.
Q: What kind of information can I find in ASER?
A: ASER is unique in identifying SRGs driving sex reversal, and their regulatory network, expression dynamics, conservation data and spatial distribution from literature and available data.
Q: What species are covered in ASER?
A: ASER screens 18 important and typical species with sex reversal phenomenon from teleostei to mammalia, and summarized the major inducements of sex reversal or common approaches used to manipulate sex in these species.
Q: Where does ASER's data come from?
A: SRGs information and their regulatory networks were curated from PubMed literature. All genome sequences and species information used in this database were downloaded from NCBI public databases. All raw sequencing data were downloaded from the Sequence Read Archive (SRA) of NCBI. The sets of RNA-seq data are organized by species, gonad developmental stages, and temperature. In addition, we retrieved the images related to sex reversal from OPENi (https://openi.nlm.nih.gov/) and ZFIN database (https://zfin.org).
